Applications

Where Station Post Insulators Are Used

🏭

Substation Bus Support

Rigid busbar and conductor support in AIS (Air Insulated Substation) switchyards. 15 kV to 252 kV. Station posts carry both the electrical insulation and full mechanical load of the bus system.

⚙️

Disconnect Switches & Equipment

Support insulation for disconnect switches, circuit breakers, current transformers, and surge arresters. Critical application where combined cantilever and torsional loads must be precisely calculated.

🌊

Harsh Environment Substations

Coastal, industrial, and desert substations where standard creepage is insufficient. Anti-pollution ZSW series with ≥28 mm/kV creepage ratio prevents flashover in IEC 60815 Class C and D pollution environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Station Post Insulator FAQ

What is the difference between ANSI C29.8 and IEC 60273 station post insulators?

ANSI C29.8 and IEC 60273 define equivalent mechanical and electrical performance for solid-core station post insulators, but use different dimensional standards and test methodologies. ANSI C29.8 is widely used in North America and markets following ANSI practice. IEC 60273 is the international standard used in Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and most utility-led projects globally. We manufacture to both — specify your applicable standard when requesting a quote, or share your project specification and we'll confirm the correct series.

What voltage classes are available for station post insulators?

Our standard range covers 15 kV through 252 kV. The TR-316 (252 kV class) is the maximum voltage single-piece station post we manufacture — standing 5,029 mm tall and weighing 150 kg. Most Chinese exporters stop at 110 kV; our 220 kV and 252 kV capability comes from the technical heritage of our primary production facility, which began developing China's first 220 kV porcelain bushing in 1972. For applications above 252 kV, we can advise on stacking configurations or composite alternatives.

What is an anti-pollution station post insulator?

Anti-pollution station posts have modified shed profiles — deeper, more widely spaced sheds — that increase the protected creepage path and prevent conductive pollution films from bridging across the insulator surface. They are specified in coastal salt-fog, heavy industrial, and desert dust environments per IEC 60815 pollution severity classifications C and D. Our ZSW anti-pollution series achieves up to 7,812 mm creepage at 252 kV — among the highest single-piece creepage available from any Chinese manufacturer.

What cantilever load ratings are available?

Standard cantilever ratings are 4 kN, 8 kN, and 12.5 kN. Higher cantilever ratings — 16 kN and 24 kN — are available as custom engineered orders. When specifying, provide your application type (bus support, disconnect switch, current transformer mounting) and the combined mechanical load including ice loading, wind loading, and conductor tension. Our engineers will confirm the appropriate cantilever rating and flange configuration.

Do you provide type-test reports for station post insulators?

Yes. ANSI C29.8 and IEC 60273 type-test reports are available for our standard series. Every shipment includes routine test reports (100% ultrasonic tested), dimensional inspection records, and material traceability certificates. Third-party inspection at our heritage production base in Zibo is welcome at any production stage — this has been standard practice since the Tyco Electronics era.
